Are there fees attached to the services?
CSCU is a fee-for-service unit available to the entire Cornell community. The initial consulting meeting with a client is provided at no cost. All subsequent and follow-up visits will require financial support. This financial support can be provided either through a unit base funding model or through a user fee model.
Under the unit base funding model, a college, department, center or unit contributes to the base funding to support the operations of CSCU. The funding provided by the unit can cover some or all the cost of consulting services provided to faculty, student researchers and staff in that unit, depending on the amount of funding the unit provides.
Under the user fee model clients will be assessed a fee for the consulting services they receive according to the rates below.
- Currently, under the unit base funding model, free consulting is offered to faculty, student researchers and staff in the Division of Nutritional Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, the Departments of Statistical Sciences, City and Regional Planning, Anthropology, Economics, Government, Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology and the Johnson School of Management.
- Faculty, students researchers and staff in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS): Effective July 1, 2009, the CALS administration is providing direct support to CSCU sufficient to allow each CALS researcher up to 2 hours of consulting service from the CSCU in each fiscal year at no cost to the researcher. The initial consulting meeting (up to 10 minutes) by CSCU staff with a researcher is provided at no cost and does not count against the 2 hours of consulting supported by CALS. After the 2 hours of consulting is provided, the CALS researcher will be billed at $50 an hour for consulting service provided by a CSCU staff statistician or $85 an hour for consulting service provided by a faculty statistician.
- Faculty, student researchers and staff from non-participating colleges
or units across Cornell University can receive one half hour free consultation
per year. Researchers from these units can obtain additional help, in any
one of the following ways:
- Referral--the researcher can enter into a collaborative agreement with CSCU (DSS) faculty.
- Purchasing additional hours of consulting from CSCU at the hourly rate listed below.
- By having their unit make further arrangements with CSCU to provide their researchers with extended access to statistical consultants. To make such arrangements please contact Francoise Vermeylen.
- People outside of Cornell University can obtain statistical consulting services from CSCU according to the hourly rate listed below.
